Staying Organized While Moving

Staying Organized While Moving
As a company that provides moving AND packing services, we understand that staying organized while moving helps everything run smoother, both during and after the move! If you’ve made the decision to move yourself with the help of a rented truck and a couple of friends and family members, there are a few tips we can give you to stay organized!

Start Early

2-3 months before your moving day, start packing items that you don’t use often. This includes books, collectibles, that drawer that always seems to collect items that belong nowhere in particular. By getting a head-start on packing items that you don’t use, you will use your time wiser on moving day.

Organize By Room

By organizing and labeling your boxes, you will make it easier for the people moving them and the person unpacking them! Be sure to write on each box which room they came from and where they need to go! This will curb confusion and misplaced items.

Take An Inventory

Spend a few hours writing down big ticket items, without professional movers, you run the risk of losing items. Taking pictures and noting serial numbers will come in handy if any items go missing. It will also give you a checklist of your belongings that should be taken extra care of.

Decluttering

When you’ve made the decision to move, that’s the best time to start getting rid of items you no longer use or need. Some examples would be clothes and toys that your children have outgrown or no longer play with. This could also be furniture and mattresses that need to be taken to the city dump. For televisions and electronics, Best Buy offers electrical recycling. For books, DVDs and CDs, Half-Price Books is a great option and will give you cash for your items! For most clothing items, there are homeless shelters in your area who will put the donations to good use. A garage sale is also a great way to get rid of unwanted items!
